How to End a Blood Feud Without Hurting Anybody

I read this story in 1980. I don't know if it happened right around then, or years earlier. Either way, it gives a modern solution to an ancient problem.

In India, two Sikh factions were feuding and had met, sword in hand, to fight it out. A social worker, forseeing tragedy, bargained with them and finally persuaded them to settle their differences peacefully. But tradition dictated that blood must be spilled before the feud could be declared over.

So they contacted the local blood bank and every man involved gave a pint.
